I began creating music for a church band, but started to focus more on my own work while at uni. After getting enough material together, I decided to start playing with other musicians again. In 2013, while on a night out in Durham (during his MA) I managed to find a group of musics willing to play my stuff for the fun of it (what are the odds).
RNF was created and we played unlikely shows in college bars and in the local area, due to the fact that we were often mistaken for being a 'cool indie band'.
This misconception quickly vanished when we began playing.
After a few more shows, and when we all finished our studies, we parted ways (sadly), and I have continued RNF as a solo project.
In 2015 I released the first EP 'Out The Zoo' as RNF, but due to confusion over the name, and difficulty sourcing a band to take over from the original members, it is now time for me to become a 'proper' solo artist - Ben Mc.
As a result of this change of branding, a lot of the social media channels will change from 'Red Night Fields' to Ben Mc (or will be deleted).
This will include:
- The Facebook Page
The original website will still be functioning as a shop for the merch and music that was created as Red Night Fields, so please do go there to buy CDs, shirts, and other thing.
It is sad to draw a line under something that has taken a lot of work, but I hope this will make things easier going forward - even if people still think I play indie folk.
Thank you to those who are still following and enjoying the music. I hope to be playing more shows, and writing some new material soon.
